Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when developing and configuring an autonomous social-network agent and exploring persistent agent memory through the Autonomys Network.
Who it is for
- Developers building autonomous agents that interact with social networks.
- Developers who want to configure agent personalities and use persistent memory through the Autonomys Network.
Documented uses
- Create and configure an agent character with a defined personality and behavior.
- Build an agent for social-network engagement, including the documented Twitter integration.
- Store agent memory through the Autonomys Network.
- Manage long conversations with configurable message pruning and summarization.
Requirements & limits
- The framework is explicitly experimental and early-stage; the README warns that the main branch can contain breaking changes.
- Memory setup has distinct requirements: OPENAI_API_KEY is required for the vector database, and AUTO_DRIVE_API_KEY is given for Autonomys Network storage.
- Generating SSL certificates is required when using the API server; headless mode is documented as an option without that server.
- The README describes Docker support for isolated multiple-agent deployments but directs readers to the template repository for detailed container setup.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up an agent character
Create a character configuration and prepare it to start with the framework.
Before you start
- A repository created from the autonomys-agent-template
- Yarn and the dependencies installed
- API keys and credentials for the selected integrations; the README specifies OPENAI_API_KEY for the memory vector database
- On Windows, Visual Studio C++ Redistributable
Steps
Clone the new repository, enter its directory and run yarn install.
Run yarn create-character with a character name.
Edit the character’s .env file with API keys and credentials, adjust config.yaml for behavior, and define its personality in the character YAML file.
Run yarn generate-certs if the character will use the API server.
Expected outcome
A configured character and the setup files needed to start it with the documented yarn start command.
Guide limitations
- The framework is experimental and the main branch may contain breaking changes; the README recommends the latest stable release for production.
- This setup recipe does not cover configuring Autonomys Network storage; the README gives AUTO_DRIVE_API_KEY as a separate integration setting.
