Solana RPC Install

Solana RPC Install is a Shell-based toolkit for deploying a self-hosted Solana RPC node on Ubuntu. It prepares NVMe storage and the Linux host, builds a Jito Solana or Agave validator from source, configures Yellowstone gRPC and systemd management, and supports snapshot startup and node monitoring.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when you have a suitably provisioned Ubuntu server and want a documented, script-based workflow for preparing and operating a self-hosted Solana RPC node.

Who it is for

  • Operators deploying self-hosted Solana RPC infrastructure
  • Teams running private RPC workloads, trading bots, indexing pipelines or DEX event-streaming systems

Documented uses

  • Prepare an Ubuntu host and mount NVMe data disks for a Solana node
  • Build and install Jito Solana or Agave validator software from source
  • Start or restart an RPC node using a downloaded or reusable snapshot
  • Monitor node health, performance and synchronization progress
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The setup requires substantial server resources: at least 128 GB RAM, with 256 GB recommended, and a 1 Gbps-or-faster network connection.
  • The preparation script may format eligible unmounted NVMe data disks, so storage contents need to be checked before use.
  • The documented RPC profiles use a bounded accounts index and index only the Address Lookup Table program.
  • Validator installation uses source compilation from GitHub.
  • The startup script can reuse a complete snapshot and preserves node data on ordinary reruns; fresh-sync mode is explicitly destructive.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Prepare and start a Solana RPC node

Use the repository’s documented stages to prepare an Ubuntu server and start a snapshot-bootstrapped node.

Before you start

  • Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04 server with root access
  • At least 128 GB RAM; 256 GB recommended
  • High-bandwidth network connection of 1 Gbps or more
  • NVMe storage; the documented setup supports different disk layouts

Steps

  1. Clone the repository to /root using the README’s git clone command.

  2. Run the command below to mount eligible unmounted NVMe data disks and apply system optimizations; optionally run the command below.

    Documented command
    bash 1-prepare.sh
    Documented command
    bash verify-mounts.sh
  3. Reboot the server, reconnect over SSH, and run the command below to build and install the validator from source.

    Documented command
    bash 2-install-jito-validator.sh
  4. Run the command below to download or reuse a snapshot and start the RPC node.

    Documented command
    bash 3-start.sh

Expected outcome

The documented workflow configures and starts a Solana RPC node with validator software and systemd management.

Guide limitations

  • The preparation script can format eligible unmounted NVMe data disks; check that they do not contain needed data first.
  • The documented account index is bounded and indexes only the Address Lookup Table program, not every account.
  • This guide describes the repository’s documented workflow and does not represent a test run.
