Practical overview
When it fits
Use Fierro when a backend needs to publish or manage IPNS records that can point to changing IPFS content, rather than making users track a new CID for every content update.
Who it is for
- Developers building dapps or services that need customizable content on IPFS.
- Teams that need IPNS-based references for content such as updateable NFT metadata.
Documented uses
- Add a file or directory to IPFS and receive its CID.
- Generate, import, or delete keys used for IPNS operations.
- Publish an IPNS record and resolve an IPNS name to its IPFS path.
- Queue an IPNS name for continuous resolution.
Requirements & limits
The project is presented as an API and its public GitHub repository lists an MIT license.
- The documented implementation uses Go and go-ipfs.
- The README describes a local setup that runs an IPFS daemon alongside the Fierro server.
- Continuous resolution is queued separately; the README says it does not resolve immediately.
- IPNS records require republishing after expiration to maintain discoverability.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Fierro locally
Prepare the documented local prerequisites and start the Fierro server.
Before you start
- Go
- go-ipfs
- A local terminal and a separate terminal for the server
Steps
Install Go and go-ipfs using their respective installation instructions.
Fork and clone the Fierro repository, then initialize IPFS with
ipfs init.Start the local node with
ipfs daemonand leave it running. In another terminal, change into the repository, run the command below, then enter
src/and run the command below.go getgo run .
Expected outcome
The README describes the server as running and ready for key requests and IPNS publishing.
Guide limitations
- The IPFS daemon holds the terminal in which it is started.
- This setup sequence does not document a production deployment.
