Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want a self-hosted way to present Bitcoin addresses for donations or simple payment requests, without needing payment-triggered processes.
Who it is for
- Bitcoin recipients who want a donation page with a fresh address for each request.
- Website operators who want to embed a Bitcoin address-and-QR payment widget.
Documented uses
- Present a Bitcoin address and QR code to someone sending a payment.
- Share Bitcoin payment details through a webpage or an embedded widget.
- Reduce repeated display of the same address.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the MIT license and is designed to be self-hosted.
- The README describes a Yarn-based setup with environment and wallet configuration files.
- The default address cache interval is five minutes; repeated requests from the same visitor during that interval may receive the cached address.
- The project warns that many consecutive unused addresses can create wallet gap-limit discovery issues.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Before you start
- A local copy of the repository
- Yarn to install dependencies
- Wallet information for the wallets.js configuration
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Run yarn install.
Copy .env.prod to .env and wallets.js.sample to wallets.js.
Set SERVER_HOST and SERVER_PORT if needed, then enter wallet information in wallets.js.
Run yarn start to start the HTTP server.
Expected outcome
A running self-hosted HTTP service that can provide Bitcoin addresses through its webpages or embeddable widgets.
Guide limitations
- The service provides an address and QR code, not e-commerce handling or processes triggered after payment.
- A repeat request from the same visitor within the cache interval may return the previously generated address.
- A long sequence of unused addresses may cause wallet gap-limit discovery issues.
