Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want an assistant to begin sessions with a consistent profile and current-work context that you can inspect and maintain yourself.
Who it is for
- People who want an AI assistant to retain readable personal context between sessions.
- Users who want to edit or version their assistant’s context in files they control.
- People working across agent environments who want to carry context between models.
Documented uses
- Record identity, commitments, patterns and priorities in a reusable form.
- Give an agent persistent operating guidance and a defined voice.
- Track active tasks, projects and observations in a current-state file.
- Carry personal context between AI models and agent environments.
Requirements & limits
- The core system is a set of Markdown files, not a hosted memory service.
- The onboarding skill offers an interview-based route; the README also describes manual setup and environment-specific instructions.
- The README names Claude Code, Hermes, OpenClaw and opencode as model or agent environments, while detailed setup instructions vary by environment.
- The repository includes example profiles and separate guides for multi-agent hierarchy and HEARTBEAT setup.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Create context files with the onboarding skill
Use the documented onboarding flow to create personal context files through an agent.
Before you start
- GitHub CLI (
gh) for installing the skill - An agent in which to invoke
symbiotic-onboard
Steps
Install the skill with
gh skill install lout33/symbiotic-ai symbiotic-onboard.Invoke
symbiotic-onboardin your agent.Answer the interview questions to create your files.
Expected outcome
A set of personal context files created through the onboarding interview.
Guide limitations
- This flow depends on an agent environment where the installed skill can be invoked.
- The README does not specify further agent setup or configuration for this flow.
Set up the workspace for Hermes Agent
Place the Symbiotic AI files in a workspace and start Hermes from that directory.
Before you start
- Hermes Agent installed
- The Symbiotic AI repository
Steps
Clone the repository to
~/symbiotic-aiand change into that directory.Optionally copy
SOUL.mdto~/.hermes/SOUL.mdfor a global voice; merge with an existing file rather than overwriting it.Start Hermes by running
hermesfrom the workspace.
Expected outcome
Hermes starts from the Symbiotic AI workspace, where the README says it can use the project context files.
Guide limitations
- The documented flow assumes Hermes is installed; installation instructions are provided in the README.
- The optional global voice setup may require merging an existing
~/.hermes/SOUL.md.
