Practical overview
When it fits
Use iGemini when a Gemini query fits an Apple Shortcuts workflow, especially when starting from Siri, Apple Watch or content already open in the Share Sheet.
Who it is for
- Apple device users who want to ask Google Gemini questions through Siri or Shortcuts.
- People who want to send text, webpages, PDFs or images from the Share Sheet to Gemini.
- Users who want an Apple Watch entry point for Gemini queries.
Documented uses
- Ask Gemini a typed or dictated question without opening a separate app.
- Share text, a link, webpage, PDF or image for analysis or summarization.
- Ask follow-up questions while retaining the current conversation context.
- Copy a response or create a note from it.
Requirements & limits
Setup requires a Gemini API key and the Apple Shortcuts app. The repository offers the shortcut as a download and identifies its license as MIT.
- The shortcut asks for a Gemini API key during setup.
- It supports four lowercase language codes: en, it, de and es.
- The default model is gemini-flash-latest, and the README says it can be changed by editing the shortcut.
- Webpage and URL analysis depends on what Shortcuts can retrieve.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and configure the iGemini Shortcut
Import the shortcut and provide the settings it requests before using it.
Before you start
- Apple Shortcuts
- A Gemini API key
- A supported language code: lowercase en, it, de or es
Steps
Download Gemini.shortcut from the official repository.
Open the downloaded file and add it in the Shortcuts app.
Enter your Gemini API key and select a language code when prompted.
Expected outcome
The shortcut is imported and configured for invocation through Siri, the Share Sheet or Apple Watch.
Guide limitations
- Language codes are case-sensitive and must be lowercase.
- This guide covers setup; it does not verify execution on a device.
Send shared content to Gemini
Submit supported shared content with a question through iGemini.
Before you start
- The iGemini Shortcut configured with a Gemini API key
- Content available to share from an app such as Safari, Notes, Files or Photos
Steps
Open the Share menu for text, a link, webpage, PDF or image.
Choose Gemini in the Share Sheet and enter a question, such as asking for a summary.
Review the Gemini response and, if useful, continue the conversation or copy the result.
Expected outcome
Gemini receives the shared input for a response; iGemini can continue the current conversation or copy the answer.
Guide limitations
- Webpage and URL handling depends on the content Shortcuts can retrieve.
- The shortcut extracts PDF text and sends images as encoded data for analysis.
