Practical overview
When it fits
Use SkyText when you need a Chinese-focused generation model and are prepared to work from a model repository or try the linked API trial.
Who it is for
- Developers building Chinese-language text-generation workflows.
- Teams exploring Chinese chat, question-answering or translation interfaces.
- Writers and prototypers interested in Chinese text continuation and structured creative prompts.
Documented uses
- Generate a continuation from a Chinese prompt.
- Create a conversational or question-answering experience.
- Translate between Chinese and English.
- Generate poems, couplets, recipes or interview questions.
Requirements & limits
The repository links to an API trial. Its code repository states an MIT license, while the README describes the larger SkyWork/SkyText model as temporarily closed-source and also lists SkyWork/SkyTextTiny.
- The repository example uses Transformers 4.18.0 or later and sets the generation pipeline to device 0.
- The repository distinguishes between the larger SkyWork/SkyText model and SkyWork/SkyTextTiny; its README labels the larger model temporarily closed-source.
- The API-trial link is a separate exploration route from loading the model through the Python example.
- The listed uses emphasize Chinese-language generation, with Chinese-English translation among the stated tasks.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Load SkyText for text generation with Transformers
Set up the model and tokenizer in a Python text-generation pipeline, following the repository’s example.
Before you start
- Python environment with Transformers 4.18.0 or later, as recommended in the README.
- Access to the SkyWork/SkyText model and tokenizer; the README also names SkyWork/SkyTextTiny as an option.
Steps
Import GPT2LMHeadModel, AutoTokenizer and TextGenerationPipeline from Transformers.
Load the model and tokenizer from SkyWork/SkyText; the README sets trust_remote_code=True for the tokenizer.
Create a TextGenerationPipeline with the loaded model and tokenizer, using device=0 as shown.
Provide a Chinese prompt and call the pipeline with generation settings, as in the README example.
Expected outcome
A Transformers text-generation pipeline configured to generate a continuation from a Chinese prompt.
Guide limitations
- The README gives an example, not a full application or deployment guide.
- The example references SkyWork/SkyText, while the README describes that larger model as temporarily closed-source; it also lists SkyWork/SkyTextTiny.
- The example sets device=0; it does not document hardware requirements or compatibility guarantees.
