Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want a batteries-included ElizaOS development setup and a documented path from local or Codespaces onboarding toward Kubernetes deployment.
Who it is for
- Developers building or customizing ElizaOS agents and plugins.
- Teams seeking a Codespaces or local development setup with a Kubernetes deployment path.
Documented uses
- Initialize an ElizaOS development environment.
- Configure documented OpenAI and OpenRouter credentials.
- Develop with custom agents or plugins.
- Prepare an agent deployment for a Kubernetes environment using the included Helm chart.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and licensed under AGPL-3.0. The README documents GitHub Codespaces and local setup options.
- The default/recommended setup requires at least 16 GB RAM; 64 GB RAM is recommended for Codespaces.
- Local setup requires Docker Desktop with Kubernetes enabled, CtlPtl, Tilt and Helm; KIND is conditional on not using Docker Desktop.
- The setup names an OpenAI API key as required and an OpenRouter API key as recommended.
- The included Helm chart supports Kubernetes deployment, while the README does not provide a complete production rollout procedure.
- Using a provider other than the documented OpenAI or OpenRouter configuration requires modification; another provider is not demonstrated.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up and open the PRISM development environment
Initialize the documented environment and reach its Agent UI using Codespaces or a local Kubernetes-enabled setup.
Before you start
- At least 16 GB RAM for the default/recommended setup; the README recommends a 64 GB Codespace for optimal performance.
- Choose GitHub Codespaces, or use Linux, macOS or Windows with Docker Desktop and Kubernetes enabled, CtlPtl, Tilt and Helm. KIND is only needed when not using Docker Desktop.
- An OPENAI_API_KEY; OPENROUTER_API_KEY is recommended.
Steps
Initialize the environment with the command below.
make initAdd the documented API keys to a
.envfile.Run
tilt upin the repository root.Open the environment through the local address or Codespaces Ports panel, then access the Agent UI at
http://localhost:3800when containers show green status.
Expected outcome
A running development environment with access to the Agent UI.
Guide limitations
- The guide covers environment setup and UI access, not a full agent customization or production deployment procedure.
- On first startup, the PostgreSQL adapter may attempt to create an existing vector plugin; the README says to restart the prism-agent resource.
