Practical overview
When it fits
Use Tai when developing a custom trading application that needs market-data streams and order-management components, particularly when its documented venue capabilities fit the intended workflow.
Who it is for
- Elixir developers building automated or algorithmic trading software.
- Teams that need to stream venue market data and manage orders through a shared interface.
Documented uses
- Stream market data from supported venues.
- Create and manage orders across venues through a near-uniform API.
- Build an advisor that logs spreads across products and venues.
- Set up an orders database and develop against Tai's interactive helper commands.
Requirements & limits
The source repository is public and identifies the project as MIT-licensed.
- The project requires Elixir 1.11 or later and Erlang/OTP 22 or later.
- Venue capabilities differ: the README separates supported venues from venues in progress and lists each capability individually.
- The documented setup creates an orders database and runs migrations; SQLite and PostgreSQL are named as datastore options.
- Tai is a developer toolkit and interactive application workflow, not a ready-made exchange trading interface.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Tai in an Elixir project
Prepare a project to run Tai with an orders database and interactive development shell.
Before you start
- Elixir 1.11 or later and Erlang/OTP 22 or later.
- An Elixir project with Tai added to its mix.exs dependencies.
- A chosen order-data-store dependency; the README names SQLite and PostgreSQL options.
Steps
Add Tai to the dependencies in mix.exs.
Create a project-root .iex.exs file and import Tai.IEx.
Run the Mix setup task to download dependencies, create the orders database, generate migrations and run them.
Start the development shell with iex -S mix.
Expected outcome
Tai's documented setup is complete and the project can be opened in an interactive Elixir shell with Tai helper commands.
Guide limitations
- This is a setup and development-shell workflow; it does not document a trading strategy, venue credentials or a live order execution procedure.
