Practical overview
When it fits
Use BeatDesign when image or video creation involves both a visual workflow canvas and timeline finishing, especially when keeping local media in one project or involving an MCP agent is useful.
Who it is for
- Creators organizing image and video generation workflows visually.
- Video makers who want to arrange canvas outputs on a timeline and export MP4.
- Developers and creators who want MCP-capable coding agents to inspect or update the same project they use in the browser.
Documented uses
- Arrange prompts and media on a connected canvas, branch ideas and compare generated results.
- Turn canvas results into a timeline by trimming, splitting and arranging clips, mixing audio and adding image overlays or SRT captions.
- Preview and export a video as MP4.
- Use an MCP-capable agent to work with project assets, canvas and editor operations.
Requirements & limits
The documented self-hosted quick start requires Node.js 22+, pnpm 10+ and current Chrome on macOS or Windows. A BeatAPI API key is required for generation, media analysis and AI redo, but not for local importing, editing, previewing or export. The repository lists an Apache-2.0 license.
- The visual workspace, local HTTP MCP endpoint and stdio MCP server have separate documented start commands.
- Generation and analysis depend on a BeatAPI key; local media work and editing do not.
- The documented quick-start browser and operating-system requirements are current Chrome on macOS or Windows.
- The repository identifies Apache-2.0 as the project license.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
