Practical overview
When it fits
Use Blacksmith when working in a Foundry-based development workflow and you want a local web interface for a contract, either on Anvil or imported into a forked network.
Who it is for
- Developers building and testing smart contracts with Foundry.
- Developers who want a local interface for interacting with deployed or imported contracts.
Documented uses
- Create a local frontend for a Foundry contract deployed to Anvil.
- Import a verified contract by address and interact with its functions.
- Use a wallet to call contract functions, including the documented `balanceOf` example.
- Run a contract interaction workflow against an Anvil mainnet fork.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and lists an MIT license. The documented setup runs Blacksmith locally from source.
- Blacksmith’s README specifically targets Foundry; it does not give a Blacksmith-specific Hardhat workflow.
- Contract imports require Etherscan verification, according to the README.
- The local Anvil workflow and mainnet-fork workflow have different prerequisites; the latter uses an Infura API key.
- The documented installation uses Git, pnpm, and a local development server.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Run Blacksmith with a local Foundry contract
Start Blacksmith and interact with a Counter contract deployed to a local Anvil testnet.
Before you start
- Git and pnpm
- Foundry, including Anvil and Forge
- A wallet that can connect to the local Blacksmith app
Steps
Clone the Blacksmith repository, then run
pnpm installandpnpm devfrom its directory. In a separate terminal, start a local node with
anvil. In another directory, create a Foundry project with
forge init exampleand deploy its Counter contract to the local node using the README’s Forge deployment instructions.Open
http://localhost:3000, connect the wallet, choose Blacksmith, then select Counter from the contracts sidebar.
Expected outcome
A locally running Blacksmith frontend with the deployed Counter contract available for interaction.
Guide limitations
- The README notes that a failed deployment may require the Foundry Configuration described at the bottom of the README.
- If the wallet modal does not dismiss, the README suggests refreshing the page.
Import a verified contract on a forked mainnet
Use Blacksmith to interact with a verified contract through an Anvil mainnet fork.
Before you start
- Blacksmith, Anvil, and a connected wallet
- An Infura API key for the documented mainnet fork command
- A contract verified on Etherscan; the README uses Dai as its example
Steps
Start Anvil with a mainnet fork, substituting an Infura API key in the documented fork URL.
Open Blacksmith’s Getting Started page and enter the contract address in Contract Management, then import it.
Select the imported contract in the sidebar and choose a function; the README demonstrates
balanceOf.
Expected outcome
The imported contract is available for interaction through Blacksmith on the local fork.
Guide limitations
- The README says contract import requires Etherscan verification.
- An Etherscan API key in
.env.localis suggested to avoid rate limits.
Compare options for Wallet connections
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
