Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a web dapp needs a shared integration layer for several documented wallets and wallet-related state or actions.
Who it is for
- Web developers integrating wallet connections into a dapp.
- Teams building applications that need wallet state, signatures or transaction-status tracking.
Documented uses
- Connect supported wallets from a dapp interface.
- Display whether a wallet is connected and its address.
- Handle wallet signatures and track transaction status.
- Refresh application data when wallet, block or network state changes.
- Use ENS-related functionality.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and lists an MIT license. Installation is documented with Yarn.
- The README provides a React-style provider and context example, including a MetaMask connection using chain ID 1.
- Wallet and network coverage varies by connector; the README points to networks.ts for supported networks.
- The README documents no playground and describes yalc for local library development.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Add a wallet connection to a web app
Install the library and use its provider and context to connect MetaMask and display a connected address.
Before you start
- A web application using TypeScript and React-style components
- Yarn
- A MetaMask wallet for the documented connection example
Steps
Install the package with
yarn add @viaprotocol/web3-wallets.Wrap the relevant application component with
WalletProvider.In a nested component, read
connect,isConnectedandaddressfromWalletContext.When disconnected, call
connect({ name: 'MetaMask', chainId: 1 }); when connected, render the address.
Expected outcome
The application can initiate the documented MetaMask connection for ETH Mainnet and show the connected address.
Guide limitations
- The example documents the connection and address display only; it does not provide a complete application or transaction flow.
Test local library changes in a consuming project
Build a modified library and install its local yalc version in a project for testing.
Before you start
- Yarn
- yalc installed globally
- A local copy of the web3-wallets repository
- A consuming project
Steps
Install yalc globally with
yarn global add yalc.Make changes to the web3-wallets code.
Build the library with
yarn publish:yalc. In the consuming project, run
yalc add @viaprotocol/web3-wallets, thenyarn add @viaprotocol/web3-wallets.After testing, remove the local package with
yalc remove @viaprotocol/web3-wallets && yarn.
Expected outcome
The consuming project can use the yalc-published local version of the library during development.
Guide limitations
- The README says the library has no playground.
- For Vite, the README says to run with the
--forceparameter.
Compare options for Wallet connections
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
