Practical overview
When it fits
Use lndmanage when operating an LND node from a CLI and you need channel-specific reporting or inspection, or when you want its documented channel-management commands.
Who it is for
- Operators who run an LND node and want CLI-based visibility into channels, peers and forwarding activity.
- LND operators who need channel-management commands such as fee updates or batched channel opening.
Documented uses
- Review node status and summarize recent forwarding, fee and channel-opening or closing activity.
- Inspect channel or node graph details, including capacity, fees, peers and addresses.
- List channels by forwarding statistics, inactivity, channel hygiene or rebalancing relevance.
- Use fee-update and batched channel-opening commands for channel operations.
Requirements & limits
The project is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT license. The documented interface is a command-line tool.
- The documented prerequisites are Python 3.8 or newer, LND v0.16.x and python3-venv.
- Some commands need LND built with routerrpc; the README says this requirement can be ignored when using precompiled LND binaries.
- When lndmanage runs on a different host from LND, the setup instructions require a read-only macaroon and TLS certificate for configuration.
- Fee updates and batched channel openings require a custom macaroon; the README advises against using admin.macaroon.
- The README describes the software as beta and provides no warranty.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install lndmanage from its repository on Linux
Set up the CLI in a Python virtual environment from the project repository.
Before you start
- Python 3.8 or newer
- LND v0.16.x
- python3-venv
Steps
Clone the lndmanage repository and enter its directory.
Check out the v0.16.0 tag and create a virtual environment named venv.
Verify the checked-out commit with git verify-commit HEAD.
Activate the virtual environment, upgrade pip, setuptools and wheel, then install the project with pip.
Expected outcome
The project’s documented repository-based installation is complete in a virtual environment.
Guide limitations
- The project README labels lndmanage beta software and gives no warranty.
- The documented setup is tied to LND v0.16.x; the README says it is developed in lockstep with LND and tagged accordingly.
