Practical overview
When it fits
Use Covenant when payment depends on completion of a job and a challenge or dispute process is needed, rather than immediate payment for access to an API call.
Who it is for
- Developers integrating escrow-backed payments into AI-agent work services.
- Teams building marketplaces or workflows where an agent delivers work before payment is finalized.
Documented uses
- Create a paid job and lock its USDC amount in escrow.
- Accept a job, submit work, and finalize payment.
- Raise and resolve a dispute during the settlement process.
- Integrate these operations through the TypeScript SDK or documented HTTP API.
Requirements & limits
- The described settlement network is Solana Devnet, and the example uses Devnet USDC.
- The README specifies a 24-hour optimistic challenge window and a bonded 2-of-3 multisig for disputes.
- The TypeScript SDK bundles the Anchor IDL; the repository also documents an HTTP API path.
- The SDK lists both job lifecycle operations and claim operations for a factoring market.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and build the TypeScript SDK locally
Prepare the Covenant SDK for local development against its Anchor program.
Before you start
- A local Git and Node.js/npm environment.
- The Covenant public GitHub repository.
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Enter the sdk directory and install its npm dependencies.
Run the documented npm build script.
Expected outcome
The SDK is built locally for development.
Guide limitations
- This setup sequence does not demonstrate creating or settling a job.
- The repository’s quick start labels the SDK build as optional for local SDK development.
