Practical overview
When it fits
Use Morphic when you want a search interface that synthesizes provider-retrieved information into cited answers, or when you need a self-hostable starting point for a configurable AI research frontend.
Who it is for
- People who want web searches returned as AI-generated answers with citations.
- Teams or developers looking to self-host a configurable AI search interface.
- Developers adapting a TypeScript search application with optional history, authentication and file uploads.
Documented uses
- Search the web and receive a streamed answer with citations.
- View search responses as rich inline components rather than plain text alone.
- Save chat history and share search results through unique URLs.
- Run a local instance using Docker Compose and its included SearXNG search provider.

The project documents a hosted web interface and local or self-hosted deployment. Its README describes guest use and optional authentication features. No pricing information is stated.
- The recommended Docker Compose setup includes SearXNG, PostgreSQL and Redis.
- Docker setup requires an API key for at least one AI model provider, but does not require a separate search API key when using included SearXNG.
- Supported model choices include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Ollama, Vercel AI Gateway and OpenAI-compatible providers.
- Search-provider options listed by the project include Tavily, SearXNG, Brave and Exa.
