Practical overview
When it fits
Use Bigmi as an application dependency when a TypeScript Bitcoin project needs reusable network actions, wallet connectors or React hooks. For transaction flows, use it for data retrieval and broadcasting while handling transaction creation separately.
Who it is for
- TypeScript developers building Bitcoin applications
- React developers needing Bitcoin account, balance and connection hooks
- Teams implementing Bitcoin data retrieval, wallet-extension connections or transaction broadcasting
Documented uses
- Read Bitcoin account balances, block data and UTXOs through configured clients.
- Connect Bitcoin wallet extensions to a React application.
- Broadcast prepared Bitcoin transaction hex and track confirmation, including documented Replace-By-Fee handling.
- Reuse Bitcoin network actions and transports in Node.js or client-side application code.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies the project license as MIT.
- The package is modular: @bigmi/core serves Node.js and client-side code, @bigmi/react provides React hooks and providers, and @bigmi/client supplies wallet connectors.
- Transport configuration is part of client setup; the Node.js example lists several provider options and uses an API key in its Ankr configuration.
- Bigmi retrieves data and broadcasts transactions but does not create transaction hex; the README uses bitcoinjs-lib for that separate task.
- The React example configures Bitcoin and Binance and Xverse connectors; this documents an example, not universal wallet compatibility.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Bitcoin wallet hooks in a React app
Configure the documented Bigmi React provider and use hooks to read account state and request a wallet connection.
Before you start
- A React application using TypeScript
- The @bigmi/core, @bigmi/react and @bigmi/client packages
- A Bitcoin client configuration and wallet connector
Steps
Install the packages with pnpm: @bigmi/react, @bigmi/core and @bigmi/client.
Create a configuration with the Bitcoin chain, wallet connectors and a client transport.
Wrap the application in BigmiProvider using that configuration.
Use the documented useAccount, useBalance and useConnect hooks to display connection and balance state and offer a connect action.
Expected outcome
The application is wired to Bigmi’s React primitives for displaying account and balance state and initiating a wallet connection.
Guide limitations
- The example demonstrates setup and hook use; it does not establish compatibility with every wallet or application configuration.
- Wallet connection does not itself construct Bitcoin transactions.
Broadcast and track an already-serialized Bitcoin transaction
Use Bigmi’s Node.js client to submit supplied transaction hex and wait for the documented confirmation response.
Before you start
- A Node.js TypeScript project with @bigmi/core
- A Bigmi client configured for Bitcoin and a transport
- A valid transaction hex string prepared outside Bigmi
- A Bitcoin address for the sender
Steps
Install @bigmi/core with pnpm.
Configure a client for the Bitcoin chain and select a transport; the README example shows Blockchair, Ankr, BlockCypher and mempool providers.
Pass the transaction hex to sendUTXOTransaction to broadcast it.
Pass the returned transaction ID, transaction hex and sender address to waitForTransaction to track confirmation and handle a replacement callback.
Expected outcome
The example returns a transaction ID and then waits for transaction confirmation, with a callback for a replaced transaction.
Guide limitations
- Bigmi does not create or sign the transaction; the README points to bitcoinjs-lib for construction.
- The example does not calculate fees or establish that provided transaction hex is valid.
- The Ankr transport example requires an API key.
Compare options for Wallet connections
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
