Practical overview
When it fits
Use Rag Play when you want a hands-on visual way to understand or investigate stages of a RAG workflow, particularly chunking, embedding and retrieval behavior.
Who it is for
- Developers exploring RAG pipeline behavior and design choices.
- Researchers examining document splitting, vector similarity and retrieval.
Documented uses
- Compare supported chunking strategies and inspect how chunk size and overlap affect previews.
- View embedding generation, similarity scores and vector relationships.
- Explore semantic retrieval and see how retrieved context is combined with a query for generation.
Requirements & limits
- The README documents character, recursive-character and parent-child splitting, with configurable chunk size and overlap.
- Embedding demonstrations include similarity scoring and high-dimensional visualization.
- Custom delimiter splitting, multiple reranking models and hybrid search are listed as roadmap items rather than implemented features.
- The repository describes a Next.js 14 and TypeScript stack using Transformers.js for vector operations and LangChain for text processing.
- The repository states that the project is licensed under MIT.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Rag Play for local development
Prepare the repository and start its documented development server.
Before you start
- Git
- Node.js package manager: npm, yarn or pnpm
- A browser for the local development page
Steps
Clone https://github.com/Kain-90/RAG-Play and change into the RAG-Play directory.
Install dependencies with npm install, yarn install or pnpm install.
Copy .env.example to .env.
Start the development server with npm run dev, yarn dev or pnpm dev.
Open http://localhost:3000 in a browser.
Expected outcome
The README describes a locally started development server viewed at http://localhost:3000.
Guide limitations
- The guide reflects repository instructions and does not establish successful execution or environment compatibility.
Compare options for Retrieval-augmented applications
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
