Practical overview
When it fits
Use FlipBIP when you want to generate or inspect supported mnemonic-based wallets directly on a Flipper Zero, including deriving receive addresses from an existing paper backup.
Who it is for
- Flipper Zero owners who want to generate or inspect mnemonic-based crypto wallets on the device.
- People converting an existing paper mnemonic into keys and receive addresses without using a laptop or phone.
- Developers or technically confident users who can build an application with Flipper firmware tools.
Documented uses
- Generate 12-, 18- or 24-word BIP39 mnemonics and derive wallet seeds.
- Import an existing mnemonic and derive supported wallet keys and receive addresses.
- Save wallets to an SD card and view them in later app sessions.
- Generate address QR-code files when viewing a wallet.
Requirements & limits
- The README identifies Flipper Zero firmware 1.0.1 as the firmware release against which the app was last built.
- The app uses close to the Flipper Zero's maximum RAM, and the README notes that a launch may need another attempt.
- The SD card must contain an apps_data folder; wallet files are stored under apps_data/flipbip.
- The app recommends keeping the BIP39 passphrase separately because another Flipper Zero with the app can load wallet files when both the encrypted data and key files are present.
- Address QR-code files are generated during the View Wallet step and require a separate Flipper Zero QR-code app to view.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build and launch FlipBIP from source
Compile the app with the Flipper firmware build tool and copy it to a connected Flipper Zero.
Before you start
- Flipper Zero device
- Flipper Zero firmware download containing the fbt build tool
- FlipBIP repository contents
- USB connection
Steps
Download Flipper Zero firmware if you do not already have it, so you have the fbt build tool.
Connect the Flipper Zero by USB.
Copy the FlipBIP folder contents into the firmware's applications_user folder.
From the firmware directory, run ./fbt COMPACT=1 DEBUG=0 launch APPSRC=applications_user/FlipBIP.
Expected outcome
The app is compiled and copied onto the connected device.
Guide limitations
- The README says the app uses nearly the maximum Flipper Zero RAM and may fail to launch on an attempt.
- This describes building and launching the app; it does not cover wallet creation or recovery.
