Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use the live explorer to look up CKB chain activity or to consult its documented RGB++ and Fiber Network views. Use the frontend repository when configuring or adapting the interface for an API server.

Who it is for

  • People checking a Nervos CKB transaction, address, block or UTXO.
  • Users tracking RGB++ and BTC-CKB cross-chain activity.
  • People reviewing Fiber Network metrics, channels or liquidity.
  • Developers who want to work with the open-source explorer frontend.

Documented uses

  • Search blockchain entities and inspect their details.
  • Follow a transaction's lifecycle and review UTXO information.
  • Track Bitcoin addresses and corresponding RGB++ activity.
  • Review Fiber Network statistics, channels and liquidity.

Requirements & limits

The project README links to a live web explorer. The frontend repository is public and MIT-licensed.

  • The frontend is separate from the CKB Explorer API server and needs an API endpoint when configured locally.
  • Local development requires Node.js v20.10.0 or later, Yarn 1.13.0 or later, and Git.
  • The interface documents English and Chinese language support and separate Mainnet and Testnet themes.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the CKB Explorer frontend

Prepare the frontend locally and configure it to connect to an API server.

Before you start

  • Git
  • Node.js v20.10.0 or later
  • Yarn 1.13.0 or later
  • An API endpoint
  • An environment file such as .env.development or .env.production

Steps

  1. Clone the frontend repository and change into its directory.

  2. Run yarn install to install dependencies.

  3. Create or edit an environment file and set REACT_APP_API_URL and REACT_APP_CHAIN_TYPE; the README also documents the mainnet URL and testnet display-name variables.

  4. Run yarn start to start the development server.

Expected outcome

A locally started frontend configured for the selected chain type and API endpoint.

Guide limitations

  • The frontend and API server are separate components; this setup requires an API endpoint.
  • The repository instructions do not provide the API server setup procedure in the frontend README.
