Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want to run independent coding tasks concurrently and inspect isolated changes before deciding what to merge.
Who it is for
- Developers with a Git repository who want to delegate independent coding tasks to multiple AI agents.
- Developers who want to compare agent-generated changes in separate worktrees before merging.
Documented uses
- Dispatch coding tasks to multiple supported AI CLIs in parallel.
- Keep each task's changes isolated in its own branch and worktree.
- Review diffs, add inline comments and navigate changes by commit.
- Merge selected task branches back into the main branch.
- Monitor agent progress through the documented phone interface.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the MIT license. The README lists macOS and Linux desktop release formats; phone access is available through a mobile browser, with a separate Android app also documented.
- The workflow depends on Git branches and worktrees, so it suits repository-based development.
- You need to install at least one supported AI coding CLI separately.
- Supported tools listed in the README include Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Antigravity CLI and Copilot CLI.
- Antigravity CLI requires a native, non-Docker task to authenticate.
- The documented desktop release platforms are macOS and Linux; the source-build instructions require Node.js v18 or later.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Parallel Code for a Git repository
Install the desktop app and prepare it to dispatch coding tasks to a repository.
Before you start
- A macOS or Linux computer.
- A Git repository.
- At least one supported AI coding CLI: Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Antigravity CLI or Copilot CLI.
Steps
Download the latest macOS .dmg, Linux .AppImage or Linux .deb release.
Install at least one supported AI coding CLI.
Open Parallel Code, select a Git repository and start dispatching tasks.
Expected outcome
Parallel Code is open on the selected repository and ready to dispatch tasks through an installed coding CLI.
Guide limitations
- The listed release formats cover macOS and Linux.
- Antigravity tasks must run natively rather than in Docker isolation because its interactive authentication depends on the operating-system keyring.
Build the desktop app from source
Start the Parallel Code development app from its repository.
Before you start
- Node.js v18 or later.
- The Parallel Code Git repository.
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Run npm install.
Run npm run dev.
Expected outcome
The development app starts using the repository's documented workflow.
Guide limitations
- This covers starting the development app, not producing a release build.
Compare options for AI coding assistance
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parallel Code | Dispatch coding tasks to multiple supported AI CLIs in parallel. | Desktop | The project is open source under the MIT license. The README lists macOS and Linux desktop release formats; phone access is available through a mobile browser, with a separate Android app also documented. |
| Llmcode | Inspect a project's directory structure with `/tree`. | CLI | The documented setup requires an API key and supports an API base URL and model setting. The project is open source under Apache-2.0. |
| Klaat Code | Open a project directory for terminal-based coding assistance. | CLI, Server | The README provides a global npm installation command and documents browser sign-in with a KlaatAI account. It also identifies the repository as open source under Apache 2.0. |
