Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want an Android client combining Mixin messaging, wallet functions and light-node access, or when you need to inspect or build its Kotlin source.
Who it is for
- Android users seeking Mixin Network messaging, wallet functions and light-node access in one app.
- Android developers interested in Kotlin source code and the repository’s documented release-build process.
Documented uses
- Use an Android app for private messaging on Mixin.
- Access cryptocurrency wallet functions within the Mixin Android application.
- Access the Mixin Network through a light node.
- Build a release APK from the project source using its documented Docker process.
- Compare installed app APK files with APKs generated from a Google Play app bundle using the repository’s checking script.
Requirements & limits
- The repository is public and licensed under GPL-3.0.
- The documented implementation uses Kotlin, Android Jetpack components and Hilt.
- The release-build instructions require Docker and at least 6 GB of RAM.
- The repository does not detail the wallet’s supported operations.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build a release APK with Docker
Build the Android project’s release APK using the repository’s documented Docker command.
Before you start
- Docker
- At least 6 GB of RAM
Steps
From the project directory, create an output folder with
mkdir -p ./output-apk.Run the documented Docker command with the project mounted at
/projectand the release APK output mounted at/home/gradle/app/build/outputs/apk/release; the command runs./gradlew assembleRelease.
Expected outcome
The release build command writes its APK output to the mounted `output-apk` directory.
Guide limitations
- The repository documents this build procedure but does not establish that it has been independently run or verified.
Check an installed Mixin APK against a release
Use the repository’s script to compare installed base and ABI split APKs with APKs generated from the Google Play app bundle.
Before you start
- Docker with at least 6 GB of RAM
- ADB
- Android SDK Build Tools and
ANDROID_HOMEconfigured - The trusted release signing certificate SHA-256 digest
Steps
Connect the Android device whose installed app you want to check.
Set
EXPECTED_CERT_SHA256to the trusted certificate digest and run./verify-mixin-apk.sh.
Expected outcome
The script generates an APK set for the connected device and compares its installed base and ABI split APKs; it also downloads a pinned Bundletool release and checks its checksum.
Guide limitations
- The procedure depends on having the trusted release certificate digest.
- The repository describes the script’s behavior; this guide does not claim an independent execution or verification.
