Practical overview
When it fits
Use Bub when you are developing an agent and want one hook-based Python runtime for shared conversations, CLI sessions and Telegram, with replaceable turn stages.
Who it is for
- Python developers building agents for shared group conversations.
- Teams seeking a common agent runtime for terminal and Telegram interactions.
- Agent developers who want to customize turn stages through plugins.
Documented uses
- Create an interactive CLI agent or run a one-shot task.
- Listen for messages through Telegram or another channel adapter.
- Customize prompt construction, model execution or other turn stages with plugins.
- Develop agents using the agents.md and Agent Skills conventions.
Requirements & limits
Bub is an open-source project under the Apache-2.0 license. The README documents installation on macOS, Linux and Windows PowerShell, plus setup from source.
- The runtime uses pluggy hooks for each turn stage; later-loaded external plugins take precedence over built-ins.
- Context is rebuilt from append-only records rather than maintained as mutable session state.
- The same runtime model supports CLI and Telegram, with custom channels added through adapters.
- Model settings include a documented default model identifier and environment variables for provider credentials, custom endpoints and call limits.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
