Practical overview
When it fits
Use Coucou when coding agents are working in the background and you want a visible session overview or a supported way to respond to permission prompts from desktop or iPhone.
Who it is for
- Developers who want to track AI coding-agent sessions without keeping the terminal in view.
- Users who want a companion interface for following agent activity and approvals from an iPhone.
- People who want to use supported chat providers or local models from the companion interface.
Documented uses
- See coding-agent session activity, including file edits and diffs for Claude.
- Respond to supported Claude Code and Codex permission prompts from the companion interface.
- Follow sessions and approvals on an iPhone through supported iOS surfaces.
- Chat with supported cloud providers using personal API keys, or connect local models through Ollama or LM Studio.
Requirements & limits
The project lists macOS 15+, iOS 18+, Windows 10/11 and Linux packages (AppImage, deb and rpm). Its public repository specifies the MIT license. Cloud chat requires the user's own API key; local-model chat connects to an Ollama or LM Studio server.
- Hook setup is agent- and platform-specific: Claude Code hooks are described across platforms, while Gemini CLI and Antigravity hooks are macOS-only.
- The project’s iPhone setup is described through macOS settings and private iCloud.
- Gemini, OpenAI and local-model chat are listed for macOS; cloud providers require personal API keys, and local providers require a running server.
- Claude Code hook installation is described as backing up existing settings, merging Coucou hooks and showing a diff before writing.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Claude Code hooks in Coucou
Configure Coucou to show Claude Code sessions and approval requests.
Before you start
- Coucou is available on macOS, Windows, or Linux.
- Claude Code is installed and its settings file is available.
Steps
Open Coucou from the menu bar on macOS or the system tray on Windows or Linux.
Open Settings.
Choose **Install hooks** for Claude Code hooks.
Review the displayed diff and confirm the hook changes; Coucou backs up
~/.claude/settings.jsonbefore merging its hooks.
Expected outcome
Coucou is configured to receive live Claude Code session and approval events. When Coucou is not running, its hook exits immediately, so Claude Code is not blocked.
Guide limitations
- This configures Claude Code hooks; it does not describe installing Coucou or Claude Code.
- The README describes the hooks as supporting live sessions and approvals; it does not provide troubleshooting steps.
