Aether

Aether is a Python framework for analyzing Solidity smart contracts, producing vulnerability findings, generating Foundry proof-of-concept tests, and validating exploits on mainnet forks. It combines static and control-flow analysis, symbolic execution, pattern-based detectors, and a collaborative multi-agent LLM pipeline in a full-screen terminal interface.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Aether when reviewing Solidity code and you want an integrated terminal workflow for vulnerability analysis, PoC generation, and exploit validation, with the required local tooling configured.

Who it is for

  • Solidity developers investigating potential contract vulnerabilities.
  • Security reviewers who want to connect contract analysis with Foundry-based proof-of-concept testing.
  • Teams building developer workflows around multi-agent smart-contract analysis and shared audit memory.

Documented uses

  • Analyze Solidity files or projects for potential vulnerabilities.
  • Review findings produced by static, taint, control-flow, cross-contract, and symbolic analysis.
  • Generate Foundry PoC tests and use Foundry tooling to compile or execute them.
  • Validate suspected exploits against mainnet forks.
  • Configure LLM providers and shared SAGE memory for a multi-agent audit workflow.

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and identifies the project as MIT-licensed open-source software. The documented setup runs locally from Python; LLM features require provider API keys. The v6.0 README requires SAGE for audits and documents starting it with Docker.

  • Python 3.11+ is required; Node.js 22+ is listed for Hardhat/npm-based projects.
  • Foundry (forge/anvil) is required for PoC generation and validation; solc-select is listed for Solidity compiler versions.
  • py-solc-x is optional for AST parsing, with regex analysis described as a fallback.
  • LLM analysis requires a key for the selected OpenAI, Gemini, or Anthropic provider; Etherscan API access is optional for fetching verified contracts.
  • SAGE is required for v6.0 audits, while the README's older v5.0 notes describe graceful degradation; check the instructions for the release being used.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up Aether and launch its terminal interface

Install the documented dependencies and open Aether's full-screen terminal interface.

Before you start

  • Python 3.11 or later
  • A local copy of the Aether repository
  • For v6.0 audits, SAGE, its Python SDK, and Docker; the README identifies SAGE as required
  • LLM provider API keys for LLM features

Steps

  1. Run the command below from the repository to use the interactive installer.

    Documented command
    python setup.py
  2. Configure provider keys and model choices in the setup wizard, or use the TUI settings after launch.

  3. For the v6.0 SAGE requirement, install sage-agent-sdk and start SAGE with the command below.

    Documented command
    docker compose up -d
  4. Run the command below to launch the full-screen TUI.

    Documented command
    python aether.py

Expected outcome

Aether opens in its terminal interface with configuration available for its analysis workflow.

Guide limitations

  • Launching the interface is not the same as completing an audit; contract analysis and PoC workflows require their relevant Solidity and Foundry tooling.
  • The README documents different SAGE behavior across releases: v6.0 requires it for audits, while v5.0 describes graceful degradation.
