Practical overview
When it fits
Use the repository when developing or investigating The Graph’s protocol-side contracts and associated packages. For the documented workspace workflow, start with Git and pnpm, then follow the README setup and build sequence.
Who it is for
- Solidity developers exploring or building components for The Graph protocol.
- Protocol developers who need to inspect its contract, interface, token issuance, token distribution or subgraph-service packages.
- Developers using the repository’s Hardhat plugin, data-edge testing utilities or TypeScript tools.
Documented uses
- Inspect and work with The Graph protocol’s Solidity contracts and interfaces.
- Build and test the repository’s packages using its documented pnpm scripts.
- Identify relevant packages for protocol contracts, Graph Horizon, token functionality or subgraph services.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identified as open source under GPL-2.0.
- The repository is a pnpm workspaces monorepo with separately described packages, including contracts, interfaces, horizon, issuance, token-distribution and subgraph-service.
- The README documents both root-wide commands and package-level commands; package-level builds and tests include workspace dependencies.
- The overview names package purposes but does not explain individual contract behavior, so package-specific documentation is important when assessing a component.
- The README describes The Graph as supporting querying networks such as Ethereum, IPFS, Polygon and other blockchains.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up and build the repository
Prepare the workspace and build its projects using the repository’s documented setup sequence.
Before you start
- Git
- pnpm, with Corepack available for the documented version setup
Steps
Enable Corepack and set pnpm to the stable version.
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Install workspace dependencies with pnpm install.
Build the projects with pnpm build.
Expected outcome
The repository dependencies are installed and the workspace build is run.
Guide limitations
- This guide covers setup and building only; it does not describe deploying contracts or integrating a particular package.
- The repository documentation also lists pnpm test, but this guide does not assess test results.
