Practical overview
When it fits
Use Mcphub when multiple MCP servers need a shared self-hosted gateway, centrally managed access, or one operational view for routing and health monitoring.
Who it is for
- Teams or operators consolidating multiple MCP server integrations behind shared endpoints.
- Developers connecting MCP-compatible AI clients to local or remote servers.
- Self-hosters who want a dashboard for configuring servers, managing access and monitoring activity.
Documented uses
- Connect MCP servers over SSE, Streamable HTTP or stdio.
- Expose all servers, a group or an individual server through stable MCP endpoints.
- Use semantic smart routing to discover and route tool requests.
- Manage credentials, authentication and server or group visibility.
- Review tool-call activity, request latency, logs and connection health.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. The documented quick start uses Docker; running from source requires Node.js >=20.0.0 and pnpm 10.12.4.
- MCP endpoints require authentication.
- The default Docker image bundles Node.js/pnpm, Python, uv/uvx, Git and build tools; the
latest-fullimage adds Rust tooling, Docker Engine and Playwright browsers, with browsers listed for amd64. - PostgreSQL-backed Database Mode is available for configuration storage in production environments.
- The web dashboard can be disabled with
DISABLE_WEB=truewhen managing servers throughmcp_settings.json.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Start Mcphub with Docker
Launch the self-hosted dashboard and backend using the documented Docker quick start.
Before you start
- Docker
- A local directory for persistent data
Steps
Run the
samanhappy/mcphubDocker image, publishing port 3000 and mounting./dataat/app/data.Open
http://localhost:3000and log in asadmin.If
ADMIN_PASSWORDwas not set, retrieve the generated password from the server logs.
Expected outcome
Mcphub runs locally with persistent settings, users and credential bindings stored in the mounted data directory.
Guide limitations
- The initial password is generated and printed to server logs unless an
ADMIN_PASSWORDenvironment variable is supplied. - The image and documented command are a Docker setup; running from source instead requires Node.js >=20.0.0 and pnpm 10.12.4.
