Fcl Dev Wallet

Fcl Dev Wallet is a mock Flow wallet that simulates the protocols FCL uses to interact with simulated user accounts. It runs alongside a locally operated Flow Emulator so developers can test wallet authentication and FCL integrations in Flow applications.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it while developing or testing a Flow application locally when you need an FCL-compatible wallet endpoint backed by simulated accounts.

Who it is for

  • Flow application developers integrating wallet authentication through FCL
  • Developers testing Flow apps and contracts against a local Flow Emulator

Documented uses

  • Simulate wallet authentication for app development using FCL.
  • Pair a local Flow Emulator with a wallet endpoint for testing app integrations.
  • Interact with the dev wallet through its development harness.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The documented workflow requires Flow CLI and a project flow.json configuration.
  • The JavaScript integration is designed for @onflow/fcl version 1.0.0 or higher.
  • The repository warns that the wallet is for local development and should not be used with Flow network instances such as Mainnet or Testnet.
  • The public repository declares an Apache-2.0 license and lists Go as its primary language.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up Fcl Dev Wallet with a local Flow Emulator

Configure a Flow project and JavaScript app to use the local emulator and dev-wallet authentication endpoint.

Before you start

  • Flow CLI, which includes the Flow Emulator
  • A Flow project directory with flow.json
  • A JavaScript app using @onflow/fcl version 1.0.0 or higher

Steps

  1. Create the project configuration by running flow init.

  2. From the directory containing flow.json, start the emulator and deploy the project contracts with flow emulator start and flow project deploy --network emulator.

  3. Start the dev wallet with PORT=8701 npm run dev; its configured variables should match the emulator-account in flow.json.

  4. Configure FCL to use the local emulator REST API at http://localhost:8888 and the wallet authentication endpoint at http://localhost:8701/fcl/authn.

Expected outcome

The app’s FCL configuration points to a locally running Flow Emulator and Fcl Dev Wallet for simulated wallet authentication.

Guide limitations

  • The wallet is intended only for local development against a locally run Flow instance; the repository warns against using it with Mainnet, Testnet, Canarynet or other Flow instances.
  • The documented FCL integration requires @onflow/fcl version 1.0.0 or higher.
