Practical overview

When it fits

Use it as a reference or experimentation project when exploring mobile wallet flows on the stated Ethereum and Solana test networks; the README says it is not intended for mainnet or real cryptocurrency.

Who it is for

  • Developers exploring mobile wallet implementation with React Native and Expo.
  • Testnet users experimenting with wallet flows on Ethereum Sepolia or Solana Devnet.

Documented uses

  • Create or import a wallet using a mnemonic phrase.
  • Manage multiple accounts and switch between wallet accounts.
  • View Ethereum and Solana balances and past transactions.
  • Send, receive, or share addresses for testnet transactions.

Requirements & limits

The GitHub repository is public and lists an MIT license. Its README says a demo is coming soon.

  • The stated network scope is Ethereum Sepolia and Solana Devnet, not mainnet.
  • The documented stack includes Redux, styled-components, Ethers.js, @solana/web3.js and Alchemy SDK.
  • The README describes wallet creation, mnemonic import, account switching, balances, transaction history and QR code functionality.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up Otto Wallet and start its development server

Prepare the React Native project locally and start the Expo development server for its documented Ethereum Sepolia and Solana Devnet configuration.

Before you start

  • Node.js 22 LTS, version 22.13 or later; the README says .nvmrc selects Node 22.
  • Yarn 4.18.0 selected through Corepack.
  • Alchemy API keys for Ethereum and Solana.

Steps

  1. Clone the repository and enter its directory: the command below then cd react-native-crypto-wallet.

    Documented command
    git clone https://github.com/vinnyhoward/react-native-crypto-wallet.git
  2. Select the project Node version, enable Corepack, and install dependencies: nvm use, corepack enable, then yarn install --immutable.

  3. Copy .env.example to .env and set EXPO_PUBLIC_ALCHEMY_ETH_KEY, EXPO_PUBLIC_ALCHEMY_ETH_URL=https://eth-sepolia.g.alchemy.com/v2/, EXPO_PUBLIC_ALCHEMY_SOCKET_URL=wss://eth-sepolia.g.alchemy.com/v2/, EXPO_PUBLIC_ALCHEMY_SOL_URL=https://solana-devnet.g.alchemy.com/v2/, EXPO_PUBLIC_ALCHEMY_SOL_API_KEY, and `E

  4. Start the development server with yarn start. The README also lists yarn typecheck, yarn test, and yarn doctor to validate changes.

Expected outcome

The project’s dependencies are installed, its documented development environment variables are configured, and the Expo development server is started.

Guide limitations

  • The README describes the application as testnet-only for Ethereum Sepolia and Solana Devnet, not for real cryptocurrencies or mainnet.
  • Starting the development server is not evidence that the app has been run successfully on a device or that wallet operations have been verified.
