Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want a self-hosted application that can be changed in context by a coding agent while you operate it through a dashboard.
Who it is for
- Developers building self-hosted internal tools
- Users prototyping applications through Claude Code
- Teams interested in conversational, agent-controlled app evolution
Documented uses
- Operate a live dashboard through conversation
- Ask a coding agent to propose application behavior changes
- Review and approve diffs that update the running app
- Prototype self-hosted tools without separating app use from app changes
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and released under the AGPL-3.0 license. The documented setup is self-hosted and requires Node 24 or newer, tmux, Git, curl, and a coding-agent CLI such as Claude Code.
- The workflow combines dashboard use and coding-agent changes in one conversation.
- Changes are described as proposals that require approval before application.
- The documented runtime uses a server, tmux, and a coding-agent CLI; the repository also identifies Claude Code and MCP as relevant ecosystem technologies.
- The base app requires NodeRel from GitHub, while channel-core.js is described as having zero runtime dependencies.
- Windows setup depends on WSL because tmux runs inside WSL.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and start the ANA dashboard
Set up the repository, install missing prerequisites, and start the agent and server in tmux.
Before you start
- Node 24 or newer
- tmux
- Git
- curl
- A coding-agent CLI such as Claude Code
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Run check-env.sh to inspect the environment.
Run install.sh to install missing tools and the npm dependency.
Run run.sh to start the agent and server in tmux and print the dashboard URL.
Complete the one-time Claude login in the agent tmux session when prompted.
Expected outcome
The repository scripts start the ANA agent and server and report the dashboard URL after a health check.
Guide limitations
- The instructions describe setup and startup, not an independently verified deployment.
- The base app installs NodeRel from GitHub.
- On Windows, tmux runs inside WSL and the documented setup may require a reboot.
Compare options for AI coding assistance
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| ANA — Agent-Native Agent | Operate a live dashboard through conversation | Self-hosted, Server, Web | The repository is public and released under the AGPL-3.0 license. The documented setup is self-hosted and requires Node 24 or newer, tmux, Git, curl, and a coding-agent CLI such as Claude Code. |
| Llmcode | Inspect a project's directory structure with `/tree`. | CLI | The documented setup requires an API key and supports an API base URL and model setting. The project is open source under Apache-2.0. |
| Klaat Code | Open a project directory for terminal-based coding assistance. | CLI, Server | The README provides a global npm installation command and documents browser sign-in with a KlaatAI account. It also identifies the repository as open source under Apache 2.0. |
