Practical overview
When it fits
Use AtlasAgent when an agent workflow needs auditable evidence, governed tool execution and recoverable progress rather than only a conversational interface.
Who it is for
- Developers building self-hosted AI agent infrastructure
- Teams requiring traceable evidence for agent memory and tool activity
- Engineers designing recoverable, stepwise agent workflows
- Operators who need web, terminal and API access to an agent control plane
Documented uses
- Record sources and evidence alongside agent memory
- Retrieve information with citations, confidence scores and retrieval traces
- Gate tool calls through risk, approval, idempotency, timeout and redaction controls
- Recover interrupted tasks from verified checkpoints
- Require acceptance and scope checks before a task is treated as complete
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and MIT-licensed. The documented quick-start path uses Node 22 or later; the full-stack path uses Git, Docker and Docker Compose v2.
- Choose the quick-start TypeScript path for the documented SQLite-based control-plane launch.
- Choose the full-stack path when the Web workbench and its PostgreSQL, Redis, Nginx and sandbox components are required.
- An LLM API key is described as optional for booting; local hash embeddings support the stated offline mode.
- Internet-facing deployments need TLS, OIDC/RBAC and rate limiting in front of the built-in single-tenant key boundary.
- A domain-specific tool set is Likely compatible, while a domain-specific evidence schema Requires modification.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Start the TypeScript control plane locally
Install and launch the repository's quick-start control-plane path.
Before you start
- Node 22 or later
- Git
- The AtlasAgent repository
Steps
Clone the AtlasAgent repository.
Change to backend/api-ts.
Run pnpm install.
Run pnpm dev, or use the repository-root node scripts/quickstart-ts.mjs path.
Open http://localhost:8000/api/status.
Expected outcome
The documented TypeScript control plane starts locally and exposes its status endpoint.
Guide limitations
- This recipe covers the quick-start control-plane path, not the full Web workbench stack.
- The source instructions do not establish a successful local run in this profile.
