Practical overview
When it fits
Use Opensquilla when the project needs one agent architecture exposed through multiple interfaces, or when a Python-based framework is a suitable base for experimenting with routing, memory, tools and MCP-related integrations.
Who it is for
- Python developers building AI-agent applications
- Teams wanting shared agent behavior across CLI, Web UI and chat interfaces
- Contributors extending an open-source agent framework
- Builders exploring model routing, memory or MCP-connected capabilities
Documented uses
- Build a CLI-based AI assistant
- Create a Web UI for interacting with an agent
- Connect an agent to chat channels
- Use persistent memory and a shared turn loop
- Experiment with model routing and MCP-based extensions
Requirements & limits
The repository documents release installation on Windows, macOS and Linux. Packaged desktop installers are identified for macOS Apple Silicon and Windows x64; quick terminal installation uses Python 3.12+ and uv. Source-based installation adds Git and Git LFS, and building the Web UI from source adds Node.js 22.12+ and npm.
- The shared turn loop is relevant when CLI, Web UI and chat interfaces should use consistent tool dispatch, retries and decision logging.
- The recommended installation profile includes SquillaRouter and model assets; the core profile omits those dependencies.
- Windows terminal installation may require the Visual C++ runtime for SquillaRouter's bundled ONNX runtime.
- macOS terminal installation may require the system OpenMP library for SquillaRouter's LightGBM runtime.
- MCP appears in the repository topics and is a likely extension direction, but a specific MCP integration is not demonstrated.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install Opensquilla from a release wheel
Set up the documented quick terminal installation for an end-user environment.
Before you start
- Python 3.12+
- uv
- A supported Windows, macOS or Linux environment
Steps
Install or make uv available.
Use the quick terminal installation path described in the repository README.
Choose the recommended profile or the core profile according to whether SquillaRouter dependencies are wanted.
If the terminal installation reports a Windows ONNX runtime DLL error, install the Visual C++ runtime; on macOS, address the documented libomp.dylib requirement if it appears.
Expected outcome
A release installation is prepared for running Opensquilla through its documented agent interfaces.
Guide limitations
- The supplied material documents installation paths and runtime dependency remedies, but does not provide a verified execution result.
- The quick terminal path does not install the Windows Visual C++ runtime or macOS Homebrew/system libraries automatically.
- The guide does not establish a specific model-provider configuration.
