Practical overview
When it fits
Use Omnigent when several agent harnesses or custom agents need a common coordination, governance or collaboration layer rather than separate unconnected workflows.
Who it is for
- Developers using more than one AI coding or agent harness
- Teams supervising agents collaboratively
- Builders creating custom agents that need to work alongside supported harnesses
- Operators needing documented policy and sandbox controls around agent activity
Documented uses
- Combine Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Hermes, Pi and custom agents in shared sessions
- Change or combine harnesses without rewriting the surrounding workflow
- Review or divide work across multiple agents
- Continue sessions across terminal, browser, phone and native desktop interfaces
- Apply approval, spending and tool-access policies
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. Documented installation paths include a shell installer, uv, pip, Homebrew and direct Git installation. Python 3.12 or newer, uv and Git are required; Node.js 22 LTS or newer with npm and pnpm are documented for related CLI and web UI workflows.
- Supported harnesses include Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Hermes and Pi, alongside custom YAML-defined agents.
- Policies can apply at server, agent or individual-chat scope.
- Sandbox integrations are available through the documented provider extras and managed-host options.
- The project is marked alpha in its repository README.
- Cross-device continuity includes messages, sub-agents, terminals and files according to the repository description.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install Omnigent and prepare its documented toolchain
Set up the Omnigent package and prerequisites for its agent orchestration workflows.
Before you start
- Python 3.12 or newer
- uv and Git
- Node.js 22 LTS or newer with npm
- pnpm for the web UI
Steps
Run the documented shell installer, or install the omnigent package with uv or pip.
Ensure uv and Git are available if the installer reports missing tools.
Install Node.js 22 LTS or newer with npm for coding-harness CLIs.
Enable or install pnpm when using the web UI.
Expected outcome
Omnigent and the documented supporting toolchain are installed for subsequent use.
Guide limitations
- The installation instructions establish setup requirements but do not constitute a compatibility guarantee or an execution test.
- Optional model, sandbox, harness, storage and memory integrations require their corresponding extras.
Compare options for Agent orchestration
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
