Practical overview
When it fits
Use Video2X when you need an offline video upscaling or frame-interpolation workflow and have a Vulkan-capable GPU, or when you want to use its documented container and Google Colab paths.
Who it is for
- Video editors and restoration users working with offline video files.
- Anime enhancement users interested in Anime4K, Real-ESRGAN or Real-CUGAN.
- Developers and technical users deploying video processing on Windows, Linux, containers or Google Colab.
Documented uses
- Increase the resolution of low-resolution video.
- Generate intermediate frames to enhance frame rate.
- Apply Anime4K v4 or custom MPV-compatible GLSL shaders.
- Process video with Real-ESRGAN, Real-CUGAN or RIFE models.
- Set up a desktop, container-based or Colab video enhancement workflow.
Requirements & limits
The project is publicly available under the AGPL-3.0 license. It offers Windows and Linux distributions, container images for Linux and macOS, and a Google Colab notebook; hardware requirements apply to local precompiled binaries.
- Choose between filtering and frame interpolation according to whether the task is resolution enhancement or frame generation.
- Check AVX2 CPU support before using precompiled binaries.
- Check Vulkan support on the intended GPU.
- Select among Anime4K, custom GLSL shaders, Real-ESRGAN, Real-CUGAN and RIFE based on the intended processing method.
- Use the container or Colab route when the documented local desktop distribution is not the preferred deployment path.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
