Practical overview
When it fits
Use Solathon when a Python application needs direct, programmatic access to Solana through JSON-RPC, with matching synchronous and asynchronous client patterns.
Who it is for
- Python developers building Solana applications
- Backend teams integrating Solana RPC operations
- Developers working with Solana transactions, SPL Token, Token-2022, or Solana Pay
Documented uses
- Query Solana RPC data such as balances, blockhashes, version, and health
- Construct, sign, submit, and confirm Solana transactions
- Build integrations for SPL Token and Token-2022 assets
- Create Solana Pay payment functionality
- Support legacy and versioned Solana transaction workflows
Requirements & limits
The documented setup requires Python 3.11 or newer and an HTTP(S) Solana JSON-RPC endpoint. The repository is public and licensed under MIT. QR rendering is available as an optional installation extra.
- Python is the implementation language.
- Both synchronous and asynchronous APIs are documented.
- The SDK supports pooled JSON-RPC clients and batch requests.
- Transaction support includes legacy and v0 formats, with experimental v1 support identified separately in the documentation.
- SPL Token, Token-2022, and Solana Pay helpers are included.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up a Solathon RPC client and read Solana data
Install Solathon and use a synchronous or asynchronous client to query an HTTP(S) Solana JSON-RPC endpoint.
Before you start
- Python 3.11 or newer
- An HTTP(S) Solana JSON-RPC endpoint
Steps
Install the package with pip install solathon.
Create a Client with the Solana RPC endpoint, or use AsyncClient for asynchronous calls.
Use the client to request documented data such as an account balance, latest blockhash, version, or health.
Close the client with a context manager; the asynchronous form uses async with.
Expected outcome
A Python integration can query Solana through Solathon's synchronous or asynchronous RPC APIs.
Guide limitations
- The guide covers client setup and read operations, not a complete application deployment.
- RPC failures raise RPCRequestError and retain node diagnostic fields.
