Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when AI asset generation and timeline editing need to happen in the same macOS application, or when an agent should work with the project through MCP.

Who it is for

  • Video creators seeking generated media inside a timeline editor.
  • Users combining AI-generated assets with conventional video-editing workflows.
  • Technical users connecting Claude, Codex, Cursor, or other compatible agents through MCP.

Documented uses

  • Generate video and image assets in the editing workspace.
  • Arrange generated and conventional media on a timeline.
  • Connect an MCP-compatible client to supported editing actions.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The documented application target is macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later on Apple Silicon. Source through v0.7.6 is available under GPLv3; later binary releases are described as proprietary. No account or pricing information is documented.

  • macOS 26 or later and Apple Silicon are required according to the project documentation.
  • MCP connections depend on Palmier Pro being open and use the local HTTP endpoint at 127.0.0.1:19789/mcp.
  • The repository contains historical GPLv3 source, while later binaries are proprietary.
  • The documentation names supported client integrations but does not list every MCP operation.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Connect an MCP client to Palmier Pro

Connect a compatible agent client to Palmier Pro's local MCP server.

Before you start

  • Palmier Pro open on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later.
  • Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or Claude Desktop available.

Steps

  1. Open Palmier Pro so its local HTTP MCP server is available at http://127.0.0.1:19789/mcp.

  2. For Claude Code, run the documented claude mcp add command with the local HTTP URL.

  3. For Codex, add Palmier Pro with the documented codex mcp add command and URL.

  4. For Cursor, use Help → MCP Instructions → Install in Cursor, or add the documented HTTP server entry to ~/.cursor/mcp.json.

  5. For Claude Desktop, use Help → MCP Instructions → Install in Claude Desktop for the bundled extension.

Expected outcome

The selected compatible client can connect to Palmier Pro's MCP server while the application is open.

Guide limitations

  • The documentation does not enumerate every MCP tool or editing operation.
  • The supplied steps describe connection, not a complete editing workflow.
