Practical overview
When it fits
Use Animaworks when a software task benefits from a persistent multi-agent organization that can carry work across implementation, testing, review, CI repair and operational follow-up.
Who it is for
- Developers exploring autonomous software delivery.
- Engineering teams needing coordinated implementation, testing, review and CI-repair workflows.
- Users working with Claude, Codex, Gemini, Cursor or Ollama environments.
Documented uses
- Decompose software goals into agent tasks.
- Implement work in parallel worktrees.
- Test and review changes and open pull requests.
- Diagnose CI failures, resolve conflicts and coordinate deployment follow-up.
- Maintain agent memory that grows, consolidates and forgets information.
Requirements & limits
The project is a public, open-source repository under the Apache-2.0 license. Documented setup paths cover macOS, Linux, WSL and Windows PowerShell, with a Windows limitation for Mode S.
- Whether the team needs persistent agents rather than a single automated script.
- Whether parallel worktrees, testing, reviews, pull requests and CI repair match the intended workflow.
- Which model environment will be used; Claude, Codex, Gemini, Cursor and Ollama are named.
- Windows users must account for the documented unavailability of Mode S.
- A specific repository-hosting integration is not identified in the supplied documentation; connecting one Requires modification.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up and start the Animaworks demo team
Install the repository and launch the documented three-agent demo with its local dashboard.
Before you start
- A macOS, Linux or WSL environment with the repository setup path available.
- Claude Code CLI installed or an active Codex login if using those no-API-key paths.
- On Windows, use the documented PowerShell setup instead; Mode S is unavailable.
Steps
Run the repository setup script, then change into the cloned animaworks directory.
Start the demo with uv run animaworks demo.
Open http://localhost:18501 in a browser.
For the full organization setup, run animaworks start and follow the five-step wizard at http://localhost:18500/.
Expected outcome
A demo team of a manager, engineer and assistant starts with three days of activity history; the setup wizard can create an owner account and first agent.
Guide limitations
- The first installation takes a few minutes because it downloads Python 3.12+ and ML-related dependencies.
- The demo requires a cloned repository and is not bundled with the pip package.
- On Windows, Mode S is unavailable.
Compare options for Agent orchestration
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Animaworks | Decompose software goals into agent tasks. | CLI, Linux, macOS, Windows | The project is a public, open-source repository under the Apache-2.0 license. Documented setup paths cover macOS, Linux, WSL and Windows PowerShell, with a Windows limitation for Mode S. |
| Agenite | Define typed tools with JSON Schema validation and error handling. | CLI | |
| Veldra | Create an agent with a policy, tools, skills, knowledge base and reasoning method. | Self-hosted | The documented deployment is self-hosted and uses a sign-in gate after a first-run administrator account is created. |
